my short story…..

maternal family history….diabetes, cancers of many sorts(young siblings n old relatives), glaucoma, weak kidney, extreme ecxema, n a few other things.

paternal history…possible digestion problems bc some have acne/skin problems. dad finally died of a heart attack, his sisters/siblings/cousins died of the same thing.
they were all young, dad was only 42.
my sister is 47 n has had congenital heart disease for years. she is in a wheelchair, on oxygen, n got a defibrillator implant last year.

over the last few years i have had off and on high blood pressure. it was minor and i did not always need medication. i have had small symptoms of heart trouble for about 10 years. it never prevented me from doing anything and no doctor gave me any medications. about 10 years ago i noticed shortness of breath w the stair climbing, so i lost weight to accomodate. i have an extremely small frame so i went from what looked like average to skinny. that helped a lot. i did not associate the shortness of breath w anything else. there were bouts w stress and i lived in a house that poisoned me w various pollutions. the gase hot water heater was never properly hooked up and the vents were never properly cleaned. i breathed that for almost 15 years before i figured it out. i am sure that had something to do w my deterioration.

early last year i had strange things like small tightness in the jaw joint from time to time and the throat closing like a suffication/choking. i had to concentrate to squeeze down air. i never knew how to quite explain that but the doctors dismissed it. once i was eating and suddenly could not swallow no matter how hard i concentrated.

last year i went to a heart specialist w pain in my left arm. the office was horrible. they depended solely on a stress test but they could nt get the wires hooked up right. plus some girl was in training and did not know what she was doing. the supervisor came in to help but she was no better. when the visit was over i was upset because they told me nothing was wrong. just come back next year. i tried to convince them otherwise but i did not do a good job. i did not think to go to another specialist. months went by. eventually i walked down my hallway and suddenly out of the blue felt nauseous then faint. i did not faint, but since i did not know what it was i was puzzled with the episode.

about june i started to have serious shortness of breath and problems w high blood pressure. my doctor left the country and i did not find a replacement. i had daily headaches n it seems that i had them so bad it could have been a small stroke. maybe i am paranoid, but something did go wrong. the doctors have no idea what i describe to them. i am gettting upset just thinking about it but no one took this seriously so i trusted them and thought i was in better shape than i really was.

with horrific stress, divorce, job problems, financial difficulty (the usual stress killers), etc. i find that i have symptoms that i have never encountered before. pressure/light tightness from head to toe on the left side. turned to burning on the left side. flushed cheeks. dull tingling/numbness of the lower face/tongue/lips, dizziness and uncontrolled hbp. the numbers range from the low 100's to 160+. before it was far over that. when all this started the numbers were only about 125 and i thought that was horrible. it changes from minute to minute even with a stronger medication. the dull pain in my arm moved up to near my armpit then it moved to the left side of my upper chest. i try to keep it as low as possible by drinking hot tea or soup. it drops a few points (ie: from 160 to 140) but i can not seem to keep it under 140. excercise does not seem to help. my heart pounds excessively and has done so for about 4 months. it does not matter if the pressure rate is down or not.

all i take is hbp medicine and vitamins one time each day. i saw a new heart specialist who is just having me wait for testing. while i wait, i made an appointment w a 3rd heart specialist. in the meantime i asked my existing doctor (2nd) what can be done n i was told to go the ER. no thanks. the bill used to be only 50.00 for ER but now the visits are now close to 1k with insurance. the health care system i am in told me that the doctors don't contract with them anymore. after insurance, i still have a large bill.

so here i am asking you what i can do to keep my hbp under control and to prevent a heart attack and stroke. i am about 50 years old, female, over 5feet 7inches tall, small/skinny frame and i could not take any more medical/financial trauma. i never smoked/drank or did drugs but i find myself taking tylenol every day for the headaches. i never like junk food. as a baby my favorite foods were vegetables. i dont eat a perfect diet becasue of the high food prices. my kitchen has poultry, canned leafy greens, canned beans, canned tuna, canned beets, rice, dried

Ok, for the past 2-3 weeks I felt as though I had a cold coming on as my soft palate and throat began to hurt and itch a little. I have been taking vitamin C and Zinc everyday, and have been using some vicks nasal spray which you are supposed to take at the first sign of a cold. On some days I felt as though the cold was eliminated from my system, but on others my nose was blocked or running and my throat hurt or itched a bit.

Last night at around 9:15pm, the area around my soft palate and uvula began to hurt slightly and this quickly escalated to a strong pain, especially when I swallowed. Over the next 3 hours or so, I took VitC and Zinc, that nasal spray, 2 strepsils and a telfast tablet. I also ate a banana, kiwi, orange, and drank some fruit juice to try and help my system. Nothing helped however, and by midnight the pain was strong and felt extreme whenever I swallowed.

At this point, my nose began to run slightly and I used a few tissues (maybe 10-15) over the next 2.5 hours (which is how long it took me to finally get to sleep). During the night, I kept waking up and falling back to sleep, my throat still hurting tons whenever I swallowed. At 6:30, I woke up for the 3rd time, but I had a strong headache in addition to extreme pain when swallowing, so I decided to have breakfast and go on the computer to take my mind off it.

So here I am, forcing down my morning weet-bix, banana, and green tea (with lemon juice and honey), praying that someone will come and help me figure out:

a) what this is
b) what I can do to ease the pain
c) what I should do to help my body recover

For all serious answers, I can't thank you enough, and please help me end this terrible pain.

Also, as I finish writing this, I have noticed that when I press lightly on either side of my adam's apple, I feel a slight pain.

Once again, thanks a million in advance.

It's probably just a cold that's unusually bad.

I wouldn't worry too much, but I'd visit a doctor. I kind of have similar symptoms right now, because I woke up this morning and coughed up phlegm with blood in it, although really it wasn't from my lungs, but from my nasal cavity. Somewhere. I just hacked another small gob up a little while ago. It's probably nothing, although I'd expect to feel like crap for a while.

My current symptoms are soft palate pain (pain swallowing and when talking, although not enough to be debilitating) and some in my throat, not to mention a persistent headache all day.

If you hear about a college student dropping dead from meningitis in the next day or two, then you might need to worry, but it's probably just a cold or something bacterial that's a little worse. I'd see your doctor if it bothers you too much.

5000 calories in one one set?

21.December, 2008

I have been on an extreme diet since July 25 to date. Only vegetable, fruit, green tea and 8 glasses of water a day and soup. My daily calories have been around 800 but never exceeds 1000. I went from 125 to 100 (as of today’s measure, though four days ago I was 105 ilbs) I look much better and completely satisfied. But on weekends, especially last weekend and this weekend, I broke the rule. Last Sunday I had a great amount of cookies that my aunt sent me, so today I thought of eating it because I wanted to finish it all (dont want to stock enemies anymore), anyways, the amount though hard calculate the calories as it is homemade, I assume it is around 5000. What should I do now? Will I gain wait again? I mean I did it last week, but the days after I went on fasting and extreme, what should I do now? I

Firstly, you need to change up the diet you are on right now. You aren’t eating enough protein, which will affect your body. Protein is your friend whether you are trying to gain or lose. It helps your body repair it’s self, and it takes more calories for your body to digest it than it contains.

Then, you need to look at your relationship with food. Something is wrong is you are binging. Even healthy people binge.

I’m not sure how many cookies you ate or what they were made with, but it takes a hell of a lot of cookies to equate to 5,000 calories. Write down what you eat so you can get a better hold of what you are doing to your body. Log your food at a place like fitday . com or thedailyplate.com

I have a rash on my chin and it goes up and around my mouth. The same line area where i would have creases if i smile. It is flat, no bumps, itches somewhat, sometimes it is so bad it hurts if i smile or open my mouth to talk (thats extreme, almost never like that) After a few days of redness, it dyes down and then flakes off and it is fine.

I have no idea why this happens. I am trying to figure out consistencies btwn occurrences. I did get my period today. I ate seafood last night and a piece of cake. I take Ortho Tri-Clycen Lo. No other medications. I eat very minimally processed foods, mostly whole foods. I am healthy in every other way possible. This rash comes and goes, sometimes not for months, sometimes a week apart. I had it last week. Could it be the weather i live in Pennsylvania? Too much sugar (cake last night)? Birth control pills? Sodium Laureth Sulfate in toothpaste? Anyone else with this problem? It does seem to simmer down when i make some green tea and press the warm tea bag on the area; but i cant really do that here at work.

Any suggestions would be great. I can do research at work, so any leads would be most appreciative. If you have other questions, i will check back often to update. Thanks so much.
It never spreads, it is always the same area. Sometimes just on one side, sometimes just my chin and not around my mouth.

I sympathize. Try researching eczema and psoriasis. Good luck.

Bad breath or halitosis in medical parlance, is foul or unpleasant smelling breath, which can be acute or chronic depending on the cause. The term halitosis is coined by combining the Latin word for breath (halitus) with the Greek suffix (osis), meaning condition.

The fundamental cause of bad breath in most people is the whitish coating that covers the surface of the posterior portion of their tongue. More precisely, the bacteria that thrive on this warm and moist coating of the tongue cause bad breath.

What causes bad breath?

Have you ever stopped to wonder what causes halitosis?

# Certain medical conditions, such as sinus infections, tonsillitis, lung diseases, renal diseases, menstruation, cancer.

# The most common form of bad breath is morning bad breath, which is a temporary condition due to factors such as smoking, dry mouth, stress or hunger.

# Poor dental hygiene, which can leave food particles to decay inside the mouth.

# Consumption of certain types of foods with strong odour can cause transient bad breath, such as garlic, tobacco or onions.

# Chronic liver failure can cause a specific type of bad breath.

# Diabetes mellitus can at times cause a sweet-smelling fruity odour of the breath.

# Psychiatric illness - some people perceive that they have bad breath, but it is not noticed by others. This is referred to as “pseudohalitosis.”

Other causes of halitosis include -

• Alcoholism, cigarette smoking

• Allergies

• Heavy metal accumulation

• Peridontal gum disease

• Dry mouth caused by salivary gland problems

• Chronic constipation

• Hormonal disorders

• Gastro-intestinal disorders

Symptoms of bad breath –

A person may not always know that he has bad breath. This is because odour-detecting cells in the nose in due course become accustomed to the constant flow of bad smells from the mouth. Infact, others notice and react by recoiling as you speak.

Symptoms of bad breath -

# extreme oral dryness

# bad taste in the mouth

# bad breath

# a white or yellow Film on the tongue

# Bitter, sour, or metallic tastes

# Post nasal drainage

# White nodules on the tonsils

# Brushing and dental flossing the teeth makes no difference

# chest pain

Treatment for bad breath –

This depends on:

• the health of the mouth

• the cause or origin of the bad breath condition

• extent of the condition

If bad breath is of oral origin, as it is in the majority of cases, a dentist can treat the cause of the problem.

If the odour is due to periodontal gum disease (causes gum tissues to pull away from the teeth and form pockets), a professional periodontal cleaning can remove the bacteria and plaque that accumulate.

If there is extensive build-up of plaque, the dentist may recommend using a special antimicrobial mouth rinse, as well as brush tongue to remove excess plaque.

How to prevent bad breath?

Some ways to lower the risk of developing bad breath are:

1. Brush and floss teeth regularly. Proper brushing includes brushing the tongue, cheeks, and the roof of the mouth, which will remove bacteria and food particles.

2. Bad breath caused by dental problems can be prevented easily. Daily protection requires brushing teeth, tongue and gums after meals, flossing, and rinsing,

3. Bad breath also can be prevented by drinking plenty of water every day to encourage saliva production. An occasional rinse of the mouth with water helps loosen food particles.

4. Clean and replace toothbrush regularly.

5. Avoid mouthwashes with alcohol.

6. Avoid stress and relax.

7. Get sufficient exercise, and sleep.

8. Avoid spicy foods and foods with strong odours, and those that leave residues or are stuck in the teeth (alcohol, chocolates, cheese, meat, sweets).

Home cure for bad breath -

# Use a toothpaste and mouth rinse that has a antibacterial composition. Thymol and eukalyptol are natural oils derived from thyme and eucalyptus, and help destroy the bacteria causing bad breath.

# Fruit and vegetable juices help a great deal in getting rid of bad breath.

# One can also use breath-freshening gum, mint, sugar free chewing gum that dissolve on the tongue.

# Drinking green tea, eating yogurt or chewing sugarless cardamom gum are helpful in combating bad breath.

# Avoid rinses containing alcohol, as these dry out mouth and aggravate the problem.

# If you wear removable dentures, take them out at night. Brush the dentures and soak them overnight in a disinfecting solution.

# Consume an almost green raw guava. It is an excellent home remedy for bad breath and bleeding gums.

# Make tea from fenugreek leaves and drink it everyday.

# A baking soda rinse is also useful in eliminating or reducing bad breath.

# Patients suffering from bad breath should take a well-balanced diet consisting of seeds, nuts, grains, vegetables, and fruits, with stress on raw and cooked vegetables, and fruits.

# Avoid constipation.

Shade trees do not all necessarily shed their leaves in the fall (deciduous), but some shade trees are evergreen, and others can be classified as flowering trees. The fact that shade trees can cool temperatures in the surrounding landscape and cool off houses during the heat of the summer is well known. Some evergreen trees also provide shade all year, a factor that may be undesirable in some cases during hard winter freezes, when an evergreen shade tree may block off the heat rays from the sun that might melt snow and ice from a house roof or prevent infra-red light from warming rooms inside the house. Extreme southern states home owners in the United States may prefer shade on homes and buildings year round, and such evergreen shade trees as Live Oak tree, Quercus virginiana; Laurel Oak tree, Quercus laurifolia; and Darlington Oak trees,Quercus hemisphaerica, would be desirable for planting near houses.

Pine trees are also valuable shade trees for houses and landscape gardens. Such perennial shrubs as Camellia japonica and azalea shrubs must have year round shade for proper flowering. The camellia shrub and the azalea plant will survive only on rare occasions if planted in the full sun. The dogwood and redbud trees benefit from pine tree shade where they flower abundantly. The cherry laurel tree, Laurocerasus caroliniana Ait, is an evergreen shade tree that is covered with fragrant white flower clusters in March. The cherry laurel tree is a fast growing tree, sometimes growing 6 feet per year. Eucalyptus trees, Eucalyptus cinerea, are evergreen shade trees, but the ‘Silver Dollar’ eucalyptus tree usually is limited to planting in the warm temperatures of zones 8-11. The exceptional menthol fragrance of all parts of the eucalyptus tree makes it especially desirable where smog and other air pollution is problematic. The loblolly bay tree, Gordonia lasianthus, is often called the loblolly bay magnolia tree, and the flower fragrance, white color, and form look like a miniature flower bloom of the magnolia.

The southern magnolia tree, Magnolia grandiflora, is an outstanding shade tree known for the gigantic 1 foot wide fragrant white flowers during the summer and the glowing green waxy magnolia leaves that provide dense shade. Because of the dense shade and the mats of succulent roots that rise to the ground surface (like cypress tree roots), few shrubs or perennials can be successfully planted and grown underneath the Magnolia grandiflora trees. Other shade trees that could also qualify as beautiful flowering trees are black locust, Robinia pseudoacacia, shade trees that are covered with fragrant white flower clusters—just following the appearance of the fern-like, light green leaves. The black locust trees leaf color changes to bright yellow in the fall, and the wood has been used as waterproofed split-rail fencing for centuries. The empress shade tree, Paulownia tomentosa, (Blue Dragon Tree, also Princess Tree) is also a flowering tree that produces gigantic blue-purple flower clusters triangular in shape. The empress tree is known as an extremely fast growing shade tree that has been promoted by former President Jimmy Carter. The wood is valued as very strong and light weight; desirable in the Far East for furniture manufacture and wood carving.

The golden raintree, Koelreuteria paniculata, is an important shade tree, that in late spring is covered with large clusters of yellow-gold drooping flowers that turn into attractive pink seed pods in the fall. The oriental look of the golden raintree makes it choice to grow as a specimen tree in garden landscapes. The red Florida buckeye, Aesculus pavia, shade tree grows fast into small shade trees that flower brilliantly red in late spring followed by the “good luck” buckeye seed. The thornless honeylocust, Gleditsia tricanthus inermis, shade tree has become one of America’s top choice flowering trees that also functions as a fern-like leafy cover to mildly shade garden areas. The thornless honeylocust tree flowers in various colored blooms, fragrant white, pink, or lavender, depending on the cultivar. The brilliant yellow-gold color of the fall leaf change will stun your neighbors. The tulip poplar, Liriodendron tulipifera, shade tree is famous because of the flowers, as well as for the shade benefit. The tulip poplar flower is yellow-orange, and shaped like a tulip or a small teacup. The leaves of the tulip poplar tree turn brilliant yellow in the fall, an important tree for fall color. The beech tree, Fagus grandiflora, is a great shade tree that produces nuts that wildlife stores up for winter meals. This very large growing shade tree has a leaf color change in the fall, but after the first freeze, the beech leaves turn tan-brown and remain on the tree like an evergreen tree until the new beech leaves appear in the spring. The beech tree leaf behavior is very bizarre.

Maple trees and Oak trees offer many species for shade and leaf change color in the fall. The maple leaf color can change to yellow, orange, and red. The Oak tree leaf color can vary from red, to orange, to yellow-gold, to brown. The Florida maple, Acer barbatum, shade tree turns a brilliant yellow color in the fall and then turns brown and remains on the tree most of the winter. Other important shade trees are the American elm tree, Ulmus americana, and the drake elm, Ulmus parvifolia ‘Drake,’ both coloring yellow-gold in the fall. The winged elm tree has strange scaly winged growths on stems and branches that are in demand by florists for their ornamental value in making dried arrangements.

The Chinese elm tree, Ulmus parvifolia, is known for its fast growth to provide quick shade. The Chinese elm is one of the easiest shade trees to transplant and can grow over 6 feet in one year if cared for properly. The American Hophornbeam, Carpinus caroliniana, is an under-planted shade tree that, during the fall leaf change, glows brightly in yellow-gold colors. The bald cypress tree, Taxodium distichum, is an excellent clean shade tree widely adapted to grow well on a variety of soil types. The bald cypress leaves do turn yellow briefly in the fall, but the bald cypress small leaf size requires no raking. The pond cypress shade tree, Taxodium ascendens, is a great tree to grow around pond-houses and wetland gardens, but should not normally be grown in well drained locations. The pond cypress roots rise from the water, swollen and large and are called cypress knees.

The black gum shade tree, Nyssa sylvatica, grows well in wetlands and the shade is beneficial to many aquatic plants. The water tupelo (tupelo gum, also sour gum) shade tree grows aquatically in many lowland wet sites. The leaves of the black gum and the water tupelo shade trees turn yellow-gold and orange in the fall. The Chinese parasol tree, Firmiana simplex, forms an umbrella (parasol) canopy with large bat-shaped leaves that turn brilliant yellow, then orange, in the fall.

The catalpa tree (fishbait tree), Catalpa bignonioides, has been used for centuries as a shade tree that attracts worms (fishbait) to be used in fishing. The Chinese tallow tree, Sapium sebiferum, is a fast growing small shade tree that produces a kaleidescope of colors on leaves in the fall of yellow, red, orange, blue, and purple. The Chinese tallow tree produces seedpods in the fall that look like popcorn after the leaves fall off, thus it is called the popcorn tree. The corkscrew willow, Salix matsudana “Tortuosa,” and the weeping willow, Salix babylonica, grow fast into shade trees with distinctive linear leaves that turn yellow in the fall. The Ginkgo shade tree, Ginkgo biloba, is one of the most famous of the shade and its brilliant yellow-gold leaves that remain on the tree for a week or more when they fall to form a bright yellow circle underneath the barren limbs. The ginkgo leaves have been found fossilized in the Oriental archaeological excavations. The green ash, Fraxinus pennsylvanica lanceolata, is a fast growing shade tree useful as a landscape specimen. The lombardy poplar tree, Populus nigra, is a fast growing tree, upright in form that is planted as hedges and windbreaks in the Western United States.

The river birch tree, Betula nigra, is a beautiful landscape tree with unique flaking bark that is replaced by slick bark in the spring. The river birch can be planted as a single trunk specimen or as a clump. The sassafras shade tree, Sassafras albidum, grows fragrant parts including the flower, bark, and the roots that were used during the civil war to make sassafras tea that produced a narcotic effect on wounded southerners. The Sourwood tree, Oxydendrum arboreum, and the sweetgum shade trees, Liquidambar styraciflua, both produce spectacular leaf color in the fall, both the sourwood and the sweetgum trees turn yellow, orange, and red in progressing stages. The sycamore tree, Platanus occidentalis, is perhaps one of the best trees for fast shade. Sycamore trees can grow to 2 feet in diameter & 50 feet tall in 20 years.

Bamboo trees and bamboo plants have been used as shade trees, privacy hedges, and borders. Bamboo plants grow rapidly and 40-50 feet (Timber Bamboo) and are useful as windbreaks as well as shade screens for privacy that cover 180 degree focused light rays. Annual flower beds are often planted in front of bamboo tree screens for partial shade, and many shrubs and bushes grow well when placed in front of bamboo tree screens, if the bamboo plants are the clumping type.

Shade trees have been used through the ages to shade landscapes, homes, buildings, or as shelter and food for wildlife. Some shade trees offer extra benefits such as beautiful flowers or evergreen foliage. Other shade trees can bear fruit, such as mulberry trees, apple trees, pear trees, and the evergreen loquat tree. Still other shade trees bear valuable tasty nuts, such as pecan trees, walnut trees, and chestnut trees. Other than the shade benefit, bright leaf color of the fall cooling off period, makes the planting and growing of shade trees a pleasurable and worthwhile effort.

In the morning since i work at mcdonalds i either have there pancakes or a sausage mcmuffin, but i drink 16 ounces in the morning no matter what, and if im not working i stick to a nice bowl of oatmeal no sugar added just a pinch of raisins…

at my break i eat a side salad with some water…if im not at work ill eat a tuna sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes
or a plain salad.

then at this point i box from 6:20-8:00 sometimes i skateboard home
i drink tons of water there and i sweat extreme amounts and i get quite alot of matches. so i figure im working very hard.

then when i get home i eat a cafe steamer or a lean meal from the freezer with some green organic tea.

also for note while im at work i may take a piece of bacon in the mornign and 1 or 2 nuggets in the afternoon and maybe a sip of diet coke will that throw me off and if not… is this diet plan im on good enough? to at least make me lose 2-3 pounds a week?

more notes i add hot sauce to my salads because it boosts my metabolism so does the 16 ounces of water and im gonna start lifting weights to boost it even more. i really do hope im doing good cus i wanna stay on this diet for a month…

if u need an age im 16.. so mcdonalds is not my full time job …if u can incorporate a diet plan with school cus i start in a week

for a workable diet
here is what my dietician suggests . follow a practical diet. start your meal with a soup or a huge salad. this fills u up. Make sure your plate has this ratio - 50 per cent veg, 25 per cent carb.remember potatoes, corn and peas come in carbs category, 25 per cent protein.this will prevent cravings too.have a protein shake if you like too.an occassional treat is OK. have a snack every three hours. fruit ideally berries, or soy nuts. just 2 tbsp of soya subsides hunger pangs. switch from white rice and bread to brown. eat 900gms of veggies a day.Lose a kilo a week. that is permanent loss. pick an exercise regime you like.
get a pedometer and try to take 10,000 steps everyday.
