I'm probably going to get some flack, especially from fellow Kentuckians, but Kentucky is NOT a Southern state, I believe. (I even laugh at people from Louisville and N. KY who consider their cities Southern…long story!) For one thing, even though we had a Confederate capital during the Civil War (Bowling Green), we technically never left the Union. Culturally, we are different, also; with the exception of extreme Southern Kentucky, most people don't really eat fried okra, grits, sweet tea, etc. "Coke" is actually "pop" here, especially in central and eastern KY. And, I'm sorry, but people just don't have as much of a sense of humor and aren't as willing to smile and say "hi". For example, when I wave and smile at my next door neighbors (KY natives, by the way,) they turn around and walk back in the house. The weather is much colder and more snowy in the winter than it is even in Nashville or Knoxville.
I live in Kentucky, BTW.
Thank you!
I'm not trashing KY, I'm just giving my expertise on the place as a life-long resident. It's beautiful, and most of my friends and family are here. I've done extensive traveling throughout the South, and KY just doesn't meet the criteria, sorry.
KY really, truly is not welcoming to outsiders. I must admit that.
I consider Kentucky to be a southern state, first is because of the mason-dixon line, also because whle they never seceded from the union, they did have a star on the Confederate flag for Kentucky.
The same holds true for Missouri.

I'm 5'5 and 140 lbs. According to calorie intake calculators I need to take in around 1500 calories for fat loss and 1100 calories for extreme fat loss… so I'm shooting for staying within that range and also working out at least 5 days a week… either 45 min on an eliptical and resistance arm bands OR walking dog 30 min then eliptical 20 min… I do stair climbing when I can on top of those.
This is today:
Breakfast: Yogart 160 cal and Nutrigrain bar 140 cal.
Lunch: Subway 12 in. Veggie Delight 450 cal.
Dinner: 2 serving Egg Beaters 60 cal. and 100 Calorie English Muffin w/ 0 cal. spray butter
Lots of water and green tea
I know each meal has carbs, but I cant seem to function without them. I'd throw in fruit but I dont have any right now.
Its a ENGLISH muffin thats 100 cal. w/ fiber.. not a muffin muffin!
Well I have no meat or cheese on the sandwich… ONLY veggies.
You had a 12-incher for lunch? Well, if you're THAT hungry, then I guess it's not bad…but why not just try the 6-incher? It's fill me up.
You should be eating throughout the day. You may have been able to consume under 950 calories today (which, by the way, is very stupid and unhealthy), but you are setting yourself up for failure. Consume a minimum of 1200 calories daily.

People like you seem to think that there's an easy way to lose weight. You didn't gain all of that weight overnight, now did you?

Dermatoligists I need advice?!?
05.October, 2008
I do not have health care. I have nodular acne. I have treated myself with green tea vitamin k and I keep my face clean at all times possible. I still get this acne and it seems some days I cannot prevent it. My mom refuses to take me to a dermatoligist because of money issues. I am trying to convince her in taking me to one. I need to know where I can see a dermatoligist and how much approximatly they will cost? I live in Vermont. I have under the skin acne scars that I have somewhat faded with scar-cream. I want them totally gone and I want my self-esteem back. I need help because although I take antibiotics and keep clean- they still apear and leave extreme scars that are big (about 0.5 in. big). I want to know how they would rid this scar, the price-(remember no healthcare), and a near-by location-thanks! Oh and I am a teenager so I don’t know if that effects the price and/or procedure/effects.
I went to a dermatologist and they prescribed me some really great stuff. They got me taking 1 pill a day called Doxicyline, and for my face tazorac cream and some liquid stuff called Clindamycin Phoshate, and this stuff works wonders i’ve been using it for 2 months now and all my pimples are gone. It’s something about dermatologist stuff that really works, but im on my dad’s insurance he has really good insurance, but all together it only cost 20 bucks, but then again because of his insurance. But i know you said your mom say its too much but my derm. told me to stop picking, clean face twice a day with a moisturizing soap, pat dry and if you have really dry skin add a good moisturizing lotion like coca butter, dove lotion,or baby lotion, drink plenty of water, eat your fruit and veggies, and get plenty of sleep, like 8 hours.good luck,if you have any more questions you can email me.

Can I lose 65 lbs this way?
01.October, 2008
Okay, so I start school again in 2 1/2 months, and I wanna be 115 lbs by then. (healthy weight for my height and age)
I am starting this diet where I only eat salads equaling 45 calories each (x3 would be 135 calories total) and then I would burn off every salad about an hour after eating.
Could I lose 65 lbs in the allotted time?
Please, don't tell me that this plan is very unhealthy, I've heard enough of it already, just please tell me if it might work.
Oh, and I do have a metabolism!
I will most likely drink green tea (and lots of it!).
I have been doing something not as extreme as what I am going to do, but I have been losing a pound a day (but I want to see if this will work faster)
yep definately

fasting for 3 days once or twice a month?
29.September, 2008
i’ve read up on water fasts, and i know the ones that last for longer then like 10 days are bad.
But, if i were to fast for 3 days..consuming nothing but water and hot green tea..then eat the 4th day (nothing heavy-fruit, light yogurt, etc.) and slowly go back to eating as i normally do (i don’t eat meat. nothing too fattening. My typical diet is fruit, vegtebles, oatmeal, sugar free jello, & ricecakes) would that be good?
I want to rid my body of toxins, and was thinking about doing this once or twice a month..
Its not as extreme as a fast, but would it still work?
I personally wouldn’t fast for three days like that, but I did hear that, that is a good way to boost your immune system and get rid of toxins. Maybe you should try talking to a dietitian, they can probably get you on the right track for removing toxins.

i am goin on a diet, not as extreme as before. i would like to know if it will work out in the long run.?
25.September, 2008
ok, after hearing some of ur comments, ive decided on this diet. i am 5'8" 200 lbs. my morning will consist of oatmeal and green tea, (maybe a bowl of cereal such as honey bunches of oats or cheerios, no sweetened, sugary cereals). then my lunch will consist of a glass of milk, lean meat such as chicken ( or a veggie burger), and salad. some times i might replace the chicken for some fruit. then, for dinner, i will have a large salad, no dressing. during this time, i will run 30 to 40 minutes a day with sprinting involved. is this a better plan? do any of you suggest anything that i can do because i want to avoid all fats and just get down to the essentials that i need so i can work and lose weight.
****thanks for the suggestions but just so you guys know, im a guy lol, curves isnt for me*****
that's a pretty good diet…you don't need to cut out all fats…some is still ok. you might want to throw in some snacks in between the meals so your body doesn't get hungry (which causes metabolism to slow down). maybe snack on power bars or something…maybe yogurt.
in your daily running, are you doing HIIT (high intensity interval training)? if yes, then that is good. if you don't know what it is, then it's basically sprinting for like 1 minute then jog lightly for 30 seconds to a minute…and repeat.
there's one HIIT training method that you might want to try…it takes maybe 20 mins max…. you start out with a warmup run maybe 4 minutes orso. you do 8 intervals of 20 seconds sprinting with 10 seconds rest. so this interval trianing should take 4 minutes. then follow up with a 3 minute cool down run. seems easy but try it…it's not as easy as it looks.

i am going on a somewhat extreme diet, will this work out in the long run?
23.September, 2008
ok, right now, i am 5 feet 9 inches, 200 lbs. i plan on going on a diet of salad and green tea (also lean meat such as chicken but this will happen rarely) from the end of june til september 1. i also plan on running for 30 to 40 min with sprinting and i will also be lifting. i will be taking protein shakes as well. now, will this be effective in losing weight, if so, how much should i lose, cause i want to sorta look like, not be at the weight class, christian bale in the machinist.
NO - you are setting yourself up for disaster!
Eat a balanced diet. take a one a day vitamin and cut out as much processed foods as you can.
Your exercise plans will do the rest.
YOU MUST EAT Breakfast and it should be your largest meal of the day. This starts your metabolism working and you have all day to burn calories. Lunch should be the normal portions and size. Dinner should be light, this is when you would eat your salads with MIXED greens and other veggies like shredded carrots, sliced radish for some zip. and even a little ROASTED or BOILED chicken cut up.
NOT FRIED NEVER FRIED FOODS OF ANY TYPE, "except eggs"
