hiya this 1st time ive asked a question but im ttc bout 5/6 months and have often read other peeps questions an have got a lot of good advice of your answers.
Well Ive got a stupid question……. i read that green tea can help a woman with fertility but caffiene is bad for a womans fertility……. does green tea not have caffeine in it then??? or do the pros outweigh the cons!!??? or when u talkin bout caffeine are you just talkin bout coffee an energy drinks etc? lol

The caffeine in green tea is not the same as coffee and if you rinse the leaves, there is much less caffeine than in coffee and energy drinks. It has a lot of antioxident properties that outweigh the boost of caffeine. It is also available decaffeinated.

I drink green tea all of the time . . . I brew it, dump the pot and brew a second one using the same leaves. This decreases the amount of caffeine dramatically.

Here is what I found about tea as a fertility food for women:

Tea - Green tea and orange pekoe tea are both excellent fertility enhancers. Tea contains a high level of antioxidants which aid in healthy immune systems. Research has shown that women who regularly drink tea increase their chance of conception.

Good luck & baby dust!

Has anyone tried using green tea to lose weight? what were your results?

Pros and cons?

I have. I have to stop drinking a few months ago because I was already underweight.

Pro? It is healthy and easy. Just 3 grams of tea leaves brew one cup of tea filled with antioxidants - you cannot get it elsewhere.

Con? Avoid green tea if you suffer from iron deficiency, is caffeine sensitive …

The healthiest green tea is those made from tender tea shoots … (see link 1)

drinking green tea?

25.September, 2008

does this increase matabolism?
what brand is best?
what are pros/cons to green tea?

anything else you think i should know.
does it matter if i drink it hot or cold?
what time of day is recomended to drink this?

I exercise 2 hours a day at least. I was more interested in muscle building than weight loss. I decided to start drinking green tea to help boost immunity (because it was found green tea drastically reduces sepsis and I have an upcoming surgery and prone to infection). After two weeks of drinking a quart of green tea (no sugar added) throughout the day, I dropped 5 pounds. I don't know that if you had poor habits that it'd be realistic to expect miracles in weight loss, but I do think the green tea may have given me a push.

I drink cold green tea that brew I myself. Also, I put the teabag in the hot water for a minute to reduce the oxalates, caffeine, etc and throw out that first batch because tea bothers my stomach. Then I use the pre-steeped bags to steep again in the next batch of water which I actually end up drinking. I never drink the first brew tea. I also believe Japanese and Chinese tea rituals involve the same process, they throw out the first brew.

The amount I drink is 2 green tea bags for quart of water. Drink this quart throughout the period of the day if you can. What you will first notice is that you have to urinate what seems a lot extra for the amount of green tea you're taking in. What green tea does is help push out retained water. You won't start losing weight right away. After a couple of weeks of this process and having to go to the bathroom a lot, you'll begin to see the weight loss. Also, the need to urinate so frequently tapers off and goes back to normal. Like I said after a couple of weeks, I dropped 5 pounds and hadn't changed anything.

What happens is that water retention interferes with weight loss. Meaning, it seems that people who have an extra hard time losing weight (I never had a hard time with weight) also seem likely to retain water. If the body has a hard time releasing water, it also has a hard time pushing fat metabolism. And so green tea pushes the process with the water first.

P.S. I drink it cold out of preference.

can it affect my Iron level?

Pro: proven anti-oxident, helping to rid your body of the free radicals occuring from digestion.

Con: Can be moderately to highly contaminated with heavy metals s.a. aluminum and lead (esp. if produced in China) due to the processing. Green tea is also a source of copper which can be toxic if you are overloaded with this mineral. And, unless decaffinated, it contains caffeine, which may affect you adversely.

As far as I know, it does not affect iron levels.

the only con I can think of is drinking it late at night and having trouble sleeping.

the pro's
High in antioxidants, gives a small energy boost, tea has been shown to help rebuild the immune system with regular consumption…

how do i know im getting the REAL stuff and what will it help with?
does it make you pee more or go poop more? and what are anti-oxidents? sorry dumb question

I read that drinking green tea (not sure if it's all teas) at high temperatures could be linked to some forms of cancer. So it's recommended to drink the tea luke warm or iced

Green Tea..?

19.September, 2008

I heard somewhere that if you drink too much green
tea it can make your under eye circles even darker..
is this true? What are the pros and cons of drinking
green tea? I know it blocks cancer cells.. Thanks.

I think the circles under your eyes is a myth. I drink around a gallon of green tea every 2 days for the past 2 years and I've never encountered this.
Drinking green tea tones down your appetite for sure. I know this from first hand experience.
There are no real downsides to drinking green tea I have seen, unless you have underweight issues it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to drink.
