There is something to be said for a diabetes natural treatment. Why is a natural treatment so important? My concern is about how drugs interact with the body and other drugs in the body. And while taking some herb or natural remedy can have a negative interaction just like a medication, I have not heard of any.

With medicines I cannot make that same claim. For me and maybe you as well natural remedies seem safer. As part of my diabetes treatment I want something that is natural.

Eating consciously and exercising are two strong suits that make up a solid natural diabetes treatment.

There are also some herbs that are worth their weight in sugar, I mean gold, that can address your blood sugar and create a safer blood sugar level for you.

Here are a few herbs that are good natural treatments for diabetes.

One of my favorite herbs is Cinnamon because of its many uses and variety of benefits. Cinnamon improves the digestion of fruits, milk, and other dairy products. Cinnamon is also good for bloating, gas, poor digestion, arthritis, anemia, painful menstrual periods, and diarrhea.

A human study published in Diabetes Care looked at 60 people with type 2 diabetes, 30 men and 30 women with an average age of 52. The researchers concluded that “The results of this study… suggest that the inclusion of cinnamon in the diet of people with type 2 diabetes will reduce risk factors associated with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.”

I like eating Cinnamon in a few different ways. Hmm good on a sliced piece of apple. In apple sauce, on a piece of toast or in some oatmeal. One way I love in taking the herb is in tea. No need to add sugar, just have the tea. This is a delight.

While helping the body maintain weight management chromium is a trace mineral that plays a significant role in helping the body respond to insulin. Also found in Diabetes Care a study confirmed significant progress in insulin sensitivity with chromium present in the body. Interestingly enough studies have revealed that people with diabetes had low levels of chromium. One suggestion is that chromium picolinate is not recommended. Use chromium.

Another effective natural diabetes treatment is North American Ginseng. One of the hallmarks of diagnosing type 2 diabetes is a positive result on the glucose tolerance test, an elevation in blood sugar level two hours after ingesting a dose of glucose.

How does your glucose level respond two hours after eating is the key question? In their analysis, the researchers found that subjects receiving a 3g dose of ginseng had a blood sugar level that was 59.1% less than subjects who had received the placebo treatment. Hey I like this ginseng. What about you?

Magnesium has proven to be an asset to the body for a quite a few reasons. This trace mineral found in nuts, seeds, whole grains and green leafy vegetables and many nutritional supplements is ideal for helping regulate blood sugar levels. Low magnesium levels may deteriorate blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes. This one diabetes natural treatment also helps with blood pressure, nerve and muscle function.

When considering using any of these natural diabetes treatments it would be wise for you to consult with your primary care provider. You want to be safe.

As part of your thorough diabetes treatment using herbs is one of the areas that will help you acquire power over this disease. Having a well rounded program that touches on all the areas of concern about the ailment that includes diet, foods not to eat and exercise will help in your quest for control of this potent illness as well.

I was going to buy some green tea supplements but the lable said not to take them if: you are on birth control, have depression or have anxiety. I have both of them and take birth control… so should i stay away from these pills?? thanks!

Yes don't take those pills. You can drink green tea but before you do ask the pharmacist, she can check with the drug company for any interaction. There are other prescriptions like Plaquinil that would interfere with green tea so its always best to ask.

Do any of these work? I’m on a diet & exercise routine and I need a little boost.

I work in a heath shop and we have been selling the green tea tablets like crazy lately, having people come in raving about them, saying they help with weight loss.
Hmm I might even try them myself soon.

Europe has been using Saw Palmetto to promote prostate health for years. Enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and the herb saw palmetto has been studied in European labs for it’s effectiveness in treating the disorder. American labs lag far behind in their research of enlarged prostate and herbs to treat it. Modern medicine in America frequently relies on pharmaceuticals sometimes to the detriment of natural herbal remedies. For instance, Doctors usually proscribe Proscar (T) and other prostate drugs which take time to become effective, unlike the Saw Palmetto herb which will kick in within 30 days.

The medicinal part of ‘Serenoa Repens’ or the Saw Palmetto is derived from the partially dried ripe fruit of the plant. The Saw Palmetto herb is indigenous to Southeastern United States but is most prevalent in Florida. It is the sterols and the fatty acids that are found in the berry that are the active ingredients. In Germany ninety percent of treatments for BPH use the saw palmetto herb, while in Italy it is fifty percent. Their successes have been many since BPH is nearly universal in the aging process of men.

A Study done in Russia tested 150 men with an enlarged prostate who had been diagnosed with BPH and other prostatic problems. Their findings concluded that Permixon, a European brand of standardized saw palmetto herb extract, had a long term efficacy and acceptability as therapy for BPH. The test was conducted over a period of 24 months and it was found that the quality of life from the base line study improved dramatically. The men had decreased prostate size, better urinary flow and increased sexual activity. The saw palmetto herb works by protecting the gland from irritating testosterone levels and will promote it to shrink.

Even better news about the herb saw palmetto, is that when used to combat enlarged prostate its side effects are almost none and it is non-toxic. Some men complained of gastrointestinal disorders but these were relieved when the herb was taken with food. There were some concerns in the early stages of study that the saw palmetto herb would mask prostate cancer by lowering the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. After much more study this was found not to be true.

Many studies show that you must buy a brand that is ’standardized with at least 85-95 percent fatty acids’ with 320 grams of the herb. In a few cases when large amounts where used it caused diarrhea in some patients. Studies have shown that the saw palmetto extract is effective in 90% of the men in clinical trials in over a four to six week period. Pharmaceutical drugs have been shown to need up to a year for significant improvement. Another benefit is that saw palmetto extracts are about one quarter of the price of pharmaceutical drugs.

There have been other herbs that have be cited as beneficial to enlarged prostate such as, stinging nettle, pumpkin seed, zinc, green tea, South African star grass and melatonin. None are as effective or show the promise of the saw palmetto herb.

In conclusion the benefits of the Saw Palmetto herb for an enlarged prostate are many. It will reduce symptoms of BPH, with occasional mild gastrointestinal distress but this is infrequent. The herbal remedy will not interfere with a prostate cancer diagnosis and it has no known drug interactions. The dosage has widely been agreed on by scientists as 320 grams per day and will cost you significantly less then a prescription drug.

If you have an enlarged prostate and you are looking for an herbal remedy speak to your Doctor about taking the saw palmetto herb to relieve your symptoms. Always speak to your Doctor before adding any medicines to your regime whether they are natural herbs, vitamins or supplements.

These enormously practical plants are ancient in their existence and limitless in their uses.

Herbs used for culinary purposes are included to add flavor to a variety of dishes. Often, a specific culture is identified by the herbs they use in their cooking. For those in search of natural ways to increase vigor and health, medicinal herbs have been shown to accomplish everything from sustaining and enhancing health to treating particular medical conditions. Blackberry root has shown success in treating diarrhea, sore throat, and cough. Dandelion, an extraordinary nutritious herb, has a history of success in treating everything from eczema to jaundice. Ginseng, an herb enjoying an increased popularity as of late, increases metabolism and has even been known as an aphrodisiac. Native American tribes can be largely credited with the initial uses of many herbs in a medicinal nature.

An added benefit in the use of herbs - in any capacity - is the convenience and affordability associated with purchasing them. Herbs can be found as near as your local grocery store, farmers market, or health food store. Or, for the green thumbs among us, herbs can be easily grown right in your own backyard. An herbal garden can be both visually appealing and health stimulating. There’s nothing more convenient than having a range of herbs right at your fingertips.

Regardless of the way in which you choose to use herbs, you won’t be disappointed. Take the time to learn about all the ways in which herbs can enhance your food, your health, and your appearance and you’ll soon be well on your way to a more natural lifestyle.
