I know that green tea is very beneficial. What's better when it comes to weight loss, high grade or low grade? Which kinds of green tea are the best for weight loss?
The healthiest green tea contains the most catechins and theanine.
Catechins contain most of the antioxidants. Theanine is mainly known for calming your mind but has other health benefits.
High grade loose-leaf has the most catechins and theanine. Read the link below for the study behind this.
Incidentally they also have the highest caffeine, so don't drink too much. Caffeine, in combination with catechins and theanine, is highly effective for losing weight.
A high grade of 2 to 3 grams should brew you 3 cups, and that is equivalent to at least 6 teabags.
Because you can infuse 3 times, it probably works out cheaper, and taste MUCH better.
The second link contains two studies that show that combing green tea and an endurance exercise is high effective for burning fat.
Hope it helps

Searching for the Ultimate Antiaging Skincare Product
23.October, 2008
It may seem unbelievable but in my search for the secret to the best antiaging skincare product, I found my self traveling to many interesting and mysterious places. I visited the cool crisp mountains of the Swiss Alps, the hot, beautiful african jungles and the ancient, rich ungerground domains of some of the most secret Egyptian tombs. At the end of my search I was surprised with what I had learned and realised that I had learned far more than which antiaging skincare product to look for.
The Power of Tea
I discovered many things but one thing that kept coming up all around the world was the claim that a high quality green tea product was one answer to my search for an antiaging skincare product. Tea is an ancient drink that has been used for centuries and many of us know and love tea in various forms. Green Tea is considered by many to be a health food because it has so many benefits one of which is the properties that help with detoxification. Many claim that green tea helps with anti aging, helps protect against cancer, helps to prevent heart disease, gum disease, and even has been said to help with the weight loss battle as well.
Back To Antiaging Skincare Product
To get a little technical for a moment, we need to discuss what is in the tea that helps the antiaging process. Tea conatains polyphenols that do a significant amount of work. These polyphenols effectively fight against the signs of aging by keeping our bodies healthy inside. These are known as catechins. There are many different catechins in tea and it is these catechins that perform the bulk of the effects.
Why green tea?
Green tea has almost twenty times the amount of catechins in it that black tea has. Green tea elevates the antioxidant effects of your skin, cells and even blood by allowing it to fight the devastating aging that is caused constantly by the effect of oxygen on the body cells. This means that the higher the level of polyphenols in a product that you have working for you, the greater the anti aging effect on your skin. It may sound like an an unusual method in terms of your skin care routine, especially when we live in a world filled with expensive lotions and creams, but it is exciting to think that it is possible that, maybe, the best antiaging skin care product out there could be something you could just drink. Of course a really important point to remember is that while you are taking care of your skincare needs you will also be benefitting your body because the green tea will not only help your skin but all the cells of your body. It seems that it is becoming widely accepted that green teas actually do help us with our skin care and our search for having young looking skin.
Information Is The Best
As I searched for information on I realised that the search became almost as important, if not more important than the search for the ultimate antiaging skincare product. In my search around this varied world, I became amazed with the quantity of information that is available about the skin already and I came to realize that we should be using that information to our advantage first and leave the search for the ulitmate skin cream until last. While we must always take care of the surface of our skin, we must remember that it is a living organ and if we can have an effect at the cellular level where the skin is formed then we will be much more effective in our fight against antiaging. It may turn out that our best weapon to fight the signs of aging could just turn turn out to be education. Now that is a thought!
Do different varieties of green tea help you lose weight as well?
22.October, 2008
I know that green tea promotes weight loss by boosting your metabolism, but is this also true for different kinds of green tea? I mean different flavors of it, like jasmine green tea, or toasted rice green tea (there's a lot more but these are the only examples I can remember)
Yes, kind of. I'd look at Oolong, which has been used for hundreds of years by the chinese and helps in digestion and speeds up your metabolism. Not to mention the antioxidants

Easy Weight Loss: 3 Practical Tips That Work
21.October, 2008
Losing weight naturally and safely doesn’t have to be as difficult as you might think. In fact, most people can experience relatively easy weight loss by simply “getting out of the way” of their body’s own fat-burning mechanisms. Listed below are 3 simple, practical, and proven tips for losing weight as easily as possible. Try them out for a few weeks and watch the fat melt off!
1. Get out of your own way—follow the ABC diet!
The first step to losing weight with a minimum amount of effort is to stop eating and drinking things that make it difficult to drop body fat. Many fitness and fashion models stay slim by following the “ABC diet”—no alcohol, no bread, and no (simple) carbohydrates. Basically they avoid the “Big 3″ metabolism-slowing, fat-creating substances that most overweight people consume on a regular basis.
If you really want to experience easy weight loss, try cutting out all alcohol, bread, pasta, fried foods, and sugar from your diet for a few weeks. These things “clog” your system, increase your fat stores, and kill your energy levels. Eliminating them from your diet will really make a big difference and you’ll begin to look and feel much better pretty quickly.
2. Don’t ever let yourself get hungry… EVER!
Hunger and food-cravings can kill any weight loss plan, no matter how motivated you are. Keep yourself on the right track by “grazing” on healthy snacks throughout the day. High-fiber foods like veggies, fruits, seeds, and nuts are your best choices. Plan healthy meals and snacks ahead of time—don’t wait until the last second to figure out what you’re going to eat!
Keep a bag of healthy trail mix with you and grab a handful every few hours. Eat a spoonful of natural peanut butter as soon as your start to get hungry. Sip ice water and green tea throughout the day. Chew on sugar-free mint gum to kill food cravings. Basically, do whatever it takes to keep yourself from getting hungry—you’ll find that it will make losing weight MUCH easier.
3. Protein shakes are your friends.
When you’re trying to lose weight naturally, protein shakes are a huge help. A properly made protein shake is extremely healthy and full of hunger-killing, fat loss-boosting protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Most importantly, it is delicious! A protein shake sweetened with a healthy sugar substitute like xylitol or stevia can really hit the spot when you’re craving something sweet.
Base your shakes on whey protein powder, low-fat milk (or rice/soy/oat/almond milk), and fresh or frozen fruit. Throw in some ground flax seeds, almonds, and/or natural peanut butter to increase the “good fat” content and to make your shakes more filling. There are hundreds of healthy protein shake recipes out there so be sure and experiment to find one that suits your tastes.
is green tea and weight loss connecetd?
21.October, 2008
is any grenn tea good for loosing? how much could i loose? is there any side effects?
Yes, green tea is conected to weight loss. Green tea contains a substance known as hydroxybenzoic acid. When green tea is digested, this acid is perserved within the other stomach digestive enzymes. As a result, when other foods are eaten, they are digested more effeciently because of the new acidic addition causing there to be less substance left to be stored as fat.

I want to buy Ultra Lean Green Tea for weight loss??
19.October, 2008
I want to lose weight and this seems pretty effecient. Do you know how much it cost and where i can get it exactly if i live in toronto.Do tthey sell it at shoppers?
Hey Bianca, from what I have heard the Ultra Lean Green Tea is good stuff.. my friend ordered it from http://myultragreentea.com where they give you a free 2 week trial. I think it is only $4.95 if I remember correctly, but anyway, she has been using it the past couple weeks and says it is awesome. She has felt increased energy throughout the day and says she can feel her metabolism picking up (if that's even possible, I dunno)! I put in an order a little while ago and I'm looking forward to trying it to.
As for buying it in Toronto, I know that they don't carry it in stores anywhere here in the US and I bet it's the same in CA. If you go to http://myultragreentea.com though there is a place at the very top where you can get to the page for Canada and order there. Hope that helps!

Drink and Dieting - the Best Drinks for Dieters
17.October, 2008
When people diet they don’t think carefully about what they drink – You need to though.
Eating and drinking are closely linked eat the right foods and drink the wrong drinks and you will reduce your chances of losing weight.
What are the best things to drink when on a diet?
Here we will look at the best drinks to aid weight loss and the ones that can slow down, or make your diet ineffective.
Let’s look at drink and dieting and start with the best drink of all first.
1. Water
Water pure and simple is the single best drink for losing weight and is the most important catalyist for weight loss in ANY diet.
A dieter should drink at least eight glasses of water.
Water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off.
It acts as a natural appetite suppressant by keeping your stomach full and fending off dehydration which can lead to hunger pangs.
Many times when you feel “hunger signals”, they are actually “thirst signals”, so before eating, drink a glass of water instead.
Most importantly of all, water helps your body metabolizes stored fat by helping the kidneys flush out waste.
When you don’t drink enough water the liver which works to provide stored fat for energy also takes on the task of helping out the kidneys and thus becomes less effective at metabolizing fat.
Drinking eight glasses of ice cold water a day burns about 62 calories because your body has to work to raise that waters temperature to body temperature – That amounts to about 430 calories per week.
2. Alcohol and soda
When dieting, don’t drink to much alcohol or sodas that are high in sugar. They contain plenty of calories and also make you feel hungry. So moderation is the order of the day.
Not all alcoholic drinks contain the same ingredients and have different affects on a diet.
Pure spirits are one of the best type of drinks to consume while on a diet because they contain approx 100 calories and very little in way of carbohydrates.
Examples would be shots of vodka, rum, Bacardi, or gin - With no mixer added.
If mixing these drinks when on a diet make sure you use diet tonic and diet cola’s etc
Wine is ok in moderation and many people like a glass with their meal a typical glass of red or white is both low in carbohydrates and calories.
Don’t go for sweet wines though stay with dry as they are not so fattening.
Beer is full of calories and really when dieting drink in moderation. Keep in mind that a pint of beer can contain a whopping 300 calories.
3. Coffee & Tea
Coffee is fat-free, but drinking it can be detrimental to diets why? - Because even though coffee in itself is fat-free, it is what can be added that hurts your diet.
Low and fat free milk is fine, but avoid cream. Finally, go easy on the sugar, if you have a sweet tooth.
All you have to do is remember that without added sugar or cream, coffee does not contain any calories.
Plain tea does not have any calories before you add your sweeteners and milk.
If you are looking for an option that does not contain caffeine, you may want to check out black or green tea. Many herbal teas possess a diuretic effect.
When it comes to the drinking of iced tea, you need to check the label to make sure that it contains no sugar.
4. Green Tea
A favorite diet drink is green tea.
The benefits of drinking green tea can be seen through the high concentration of antioxidants that can be found.
Studies have also shown that the benefits of green tea for dieting are visible when drinking just one cup a day and weight loss is speeded up.
5. Fruit Juices
When choosing a fruit juice while dieting, you should always look at the nutritional information found on the label.
You need to make sure that the juice is made from real fruit and not the sugar-filled concentrates that are loaded with calories. Providing the juice is natural any fruit or vegetable juice can be incorporated in your diet.
6. Milk
Milk contains calories but if used correctly in a diet can help you lose weight. Make sure that you choose low or fat free varieties that contain far less calories
One of the reasons that milk helps some to lose weight because it makes you feel full. It also aids in bone strength, as well as lowers blood pressure and provides a load of other nutrients our bodies need.
When dieting we all have to drink and the choices we make can have a big affect on how much weight we lose as you can from the above.
By all means enjoy any drink even alcohol but do so in moderation
Green tea and weight loss
17.October, 2008
Hi everyone, I was talking to my friend the other day and I said I wanted to lose about 4 stones by time I start uni, she then recommended green tea. Is green tea good for weight loss? What exactly does green tea do? I’ve looked at websites but I’m still quite unsure.
There is no conclusive proof that it actually does anything. The most effective scientific study, which was performed at the University of Geneva could only say that: "green tea extract may play a role in the control of body composition via sympathetic activation of thermogenesis, fat oxidation, or both." An emphasis must be placed on the MAY.
Over the years of study in bariatrics science has attempted to find an easy way to assist people to lose weight. The conclusions have found that the most effective way to decrease weight is to decrease the caloric intake, and increase the body's use of calories through exercise.
Dr. Frank has answered this for you, and while you may find his response too "frank" (pardon the pun) he is quite correct. Working with patients in the US, I see people over their optimum body weight commonly. They all are seeking a quick pill, or the best natural method, or if I leave this or that out of my diet will I lose weight.
Weight gain is significantly tough for Uni students who are often too busy for proper exercise, and rarely eat anything green which their roomate did not happen to leave in the fridge too long.
I'm sure you do your exercise, and you try watching your caloric intake. But try to watch the composition of the foods. A favorite ploy in the US is to call something all-natural which people think means is good for them. But a full bucket of lard is natural. Also many companies will use non-fat to get people to eat the product, but boost the sugar to improve the taste, thereby increasing the calories.
In a previous question you mentioned Special K bars. The other day, I was fascinated to note, that there was less fat and calories and overall better nutrition in Frosted Flakes than in the same size serving of Special K.
Eat a well balanced diet and try to get more effective exercise than walking. Swimming or biking will use more calories for the same amount of time.
Good luck at Uni!

Green Tea: Natures Secret Remedy
15.October, 2008
Green tea may sound like something you might serve with Dr. Seuss’ green eggs and ham, but it’s certainly not something that will upset your stomach. In fact, it may very well help it. Initially cultured in the fourth century B.C., green tea has been used for brewing tea as well as treating diseases since ancient times. The Chinese have used it for years, treating everything from headaches to depression.
Although it and black tea are derived from the same plant, it is the difference in their processing that sets them apart. Green tea is dried but not fermented, as black tea is. This allows it to hold its beneficial chemicals intact. The beneficial chemicals are catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is an antioxidant. Antioxidants such as this prevent free radicals (which are particles in our bodies) from harming our cells. Free radicals may lead to cancer. In this way, antioxidants hinder cancer cell growth by killing cancer cells. However, they do not harm healthy tissue.
Research has shown it is effective in fighting a variety of cancers. There have also been studies demonstrating that green tea may help lower cholesterol and prevent blood clots, which can lead to strokes or heart attacks. It may also help with hypertension, kidney function, and arthritis. Green tea is also believed to give the immune system a boost by allowing it to fight viral and bacterial infections. This would also help to prevent allergies, colds and flu.
Skin aging is a result of free radical damage, so green tea can help with skin care as well. In fact, some skin care brand names are using green tea in their products today. Green tea may also help improve memory and slow the development of Alzheimer’s. Since it boosts insulin activity in the body by more than 15%, it can help with diabetes. Furthermore, it may aid with weight loss, since it is believed to increase metabolic rates. This may also strengthen bones, which may help prevent osteoporosis. Green tea may even help with tooth decay by killing bacteria that causes plaque. The only negative side effect of green tea is insomnia due to the caffeine content. However, the caffeine content in green tea is still lower than that in coffee.
As little as four to five cups of tea per day has shown to be beneficial to the human body. The taste is fresh, light, and some say green or grassy. Some teas have a bit of sweetness and some are astringent. Typically, green tea is not served with milk and sugar, but that is for you to decide.
