Green Tea Flavored Recipes?
28.October, 2008
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew about any good recipes involving green tea flavoring? I heard of people baking green tea cheesecake soufflès or green tea cookies, so any sort of green tea pastry or dessert would be great.
I bought a small canister of Green Tea Matcha Powder at a Japanese market, and I know it's good stuff because it was pretty expensive, so I just need to know recipes now.
Steamed Green Tea Cake with Black Sesame Seeds
Healthy, and easy-to-make cake
* 1 1/2 cups cake flour
* 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
* 2 teaspoons powdered green tea
*
* 6 egg yolks
* 1 1/4 cups white sugar
* 2 1/2 tablespoons water
* 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 6 egg whites
*
* 2 teaspoons black sesame seeds, garnish
1. Set a bamboo steamer large enough to contain a 9×9 inch pan over simmering water. Sift together the cake flour, baking powder and green tea powder. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, combine the egg yolks, sugar, water and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until mixture has tripled in volume. Fold in the flour mixture, mixing just until combined.
3. Beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Gently fold whites into the egg yolk mixture. Pour batter into the cake pan.
4. Place cake pan in steamer. Stretch a kitchen towel over the cake pan without touching the surface, then cover with steamer lid. Steam cake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack. Sprinkle with black sesame seeds and cut into pieces before serving.

Does Starbuck's green tea frapuccino contain caffeine?
24.October, 2008
Does it use real Matcha green tea powder?
All green tea has some caffeine, but much, much less than coffee or black tea. Green and black tea come from the exact same tea leaf, but the leaves are fermented for black tea and used fresh for green tea. So, yes about the caffeine, but not a hell of a lot.

I have no melon syrup though.
haha, so are there any nice at home substitutes that I can use?
I love green tea frappacinos, and so I got I got green tea matcha powder for my birthday so I could make my own.
But mine taste like frozen vegetable soup, eww.
lol. any suggestions?
:]
i worked there. did you also get the creme base for your bday? cus if not and you're just blending that powder crap (i HATE it btw, but to each his own, haha) with ice, then no wonder it tastes like veggies! to me it tastes like fruit flavored grass haha. anyway, i honestly suggest buying a bottle of melon syrup, they're only like 6 bucks each and last a while. ask for the pump with it and most will give you one. for a "tall" its 2 pumps, 3 for "grande", and 4 for "venti". and you wanna put the same for scoops of the powder. 2, 3, and 4, and use a teaspoon, the actual measuring kind, cus thats the closest to the scoop they use there. as for the creme base, if you dont have any cus im not sure you CAN buy it, try mixing nonfat milk with maybe one of those powdered drink mixes, a vanilla flavor…you know like the powdered nesquick chocolate drinks you mix w/ cold milk? im SURE they make a vanilla version, SOME brand has to! and if not, try a bit of vanilla extract in the milk? or for a super rich one try substituting vanilla ice cream for the cream base. and don't forget the ice! small cubes will give you the same texture…phew that was a long answer!

I'm looking for recipies for using Maccha (sometimes spelling is listed as Matcha) Japanese green tea in powdered form in baking or other types of uses. Does anybody have any good recipies or website suggestions that do?
I love Japanese food, but am not really one for ocha(green tea). My friend, Mariko, loves it, and said this recipie came out great. She found it on a specialized website or something.
Matcha Muffins
Ingredients:
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp powdered Matcha green tea
1/2 cup milk
1 stick of butter, softened
2 eggs
Directions:
Sift together flour, baking soda and Matcha into a bowl. Set aside. In a large bowl, whisk butter until it becomes soft. Add sugar to butter and whisk again. Add beaten eggs and stir well. Add dry ingredients and milk to the mixture. Stirring mixture only until the dry ingredients are moistened. The batter will be lumpy. Spoon into prepared muffin tins, filling each cup 1/2 to 2/3 full. Bake in 175° oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from oven. Let cool completely on wire rack.

Homemade green tea lattes, without the matcha powder?
19.October, 2008
Is there any way of doing this, or is the powder necessary?
Could I substitute the powder with actual tea? (either the tea leaves or already-made tea)
I've made tea lattes (herbal, not green, but it's the same principle) that have turned out good using tea bags.
First, make a concentrated tea by heating up the water and use either twice the tea bags or half the water (adjusting for strength as needed based on the tea you're using)
Second, after letting it steep for a while, add in your milk/soymilk. Again, it's up to your preference, but it seems to me that 1/2 concentrated tea and 1/2 soymilk suits me well. You can either add it in and heat the mixture over a stove/microwave, or add in the milk already hot.
Last, add in sugar to taste, and if you have it, some vanilla flavoring for a nice touch. =)
The recipe varies with personal taste and strength of tea, but that's the basic adaptable idea. Hope it helps!

green tea matcha powder???
15.October, 2008
what is it? if u know how do u make it?!?!?!?!
if i wanna make a green tea frap can i use green tea bags instead?
Matcha powder is basically green tea leaves that are ground up to a very fine powder. The tea made from matcha powder is a very green, almost milky substance with a typical green tea flavor. It is the kind of tea that is used during the famous Japanese tea ceremony.
Many have tried to grind their own matcha, but the simplest solution is just to buy it as a powder.
Green tea bags can probably be used for making a frap, but loose leaf tea is always better tasting.
