Mixing Vicoden with other over the counter medications?!?!?
01.October, 2008
Right now I have extremely swollen glands in my throat…..the doctor prescribed Vicoden, plus I am taking extra strength tylenol, Aleve, AND robutessin, plus drinking lots of green tea…….is this too much? Dangerous combination?
The pain is so extreme, the Vicoden alone barely helps…..by taking all these drugs I basically feel really drunk and wheezy and am able to sleep……
Right now I am waiting for blood tests to be completed to find out why my glands are swollen……the doctor also gave me a shot of antibodies today…….
If I have an infection, the antibodies should cure it….but if it viral, the antibodies won't help at all…….
Do not take any other type of tylenol while you are taking the Vicodin. You can however, take the Vicodin along with Advil or ibupropen. Do not mix in cold meds without checking with your dr first.
Hope you feel better soon.

that sounds like a horrid mix.
i wouldn't mix the vicoden with any of the above. if the rx isn't nixxing the pain, you need to see the doctor again.
i understand you have swollen glands, but what is behind them? do you have an infection somewhere?

I would not combine all those on a regular basis, or for a long period of time. but for intense pain you are fine. The reason is that all that can take a toll on your liver and the lining of your stomach. I know that for such an over prescribed medication doctors are still hesitant to give a sufficient amount somebody enduring pain. I combined generic tylenol, ibuprofen, and occasionally naproxen sodium for months for feet injuries with having a history of ulcers and considerable liver damage and never had any problems.

Vicodin is a mix of codeine and tylenol or at least a synthetic codeine. None the less, it still has tylenol (acetaminophen) in it and you should never take extra tylenol or acetaminophen with it. You really shouldn't take aleve with it either. Vicodin works pretty hard on the liver and so does aleve so you shouldn't mix those two. If you need extra pain relief you would be better by taking 1 and a half vicodin instead of mixing the other stuff in. The green tea will not harm you and it's okay to mix with it. You shouldn't take robitussin though because it could have alcohol in it and it's not good to mix alcohol with the vicodin plus not knowing which robitussin you have, you may be mixing in too many things that don't belong with vicodin.

Vicodin and Tylenol both contain acetaminophen. combining the two is dangerous as an overdose of acetaminophen can kill. If it doesn't kill you it can severely damage your liver.
Both Vicodin and Aleve lower your blood pressure, if that gets too low and you're lucky you will just pass out.
Robitussin also contains acetaminophen.
If you keep mixing these meds you won't have to worry about your blood test results, you're going to kill yourself.
Just take what the doctor ordered, ease the pain in your throat with chamomile tea sweetened with honey.

You really should not be taking anything else w/your vicoden because of all the Tylenol in it.. it is very bad for your liver.. call your doctor and tell him the vicoden is not working and you need something stronger… hope u feel better…..
