Is it really the coffee that people love or is it the caffeine?

I have often wondered about this. Personally, I don’t like coffee or even the smell. So when I hear people say they “love” coffee, it makes me wonder. How do they know they aren’t simply associating the caffeine “high” with the coffee itself. There are OTHER ways to get caffeine, not just coffee, but people seem to think coffee is the only or best way (I prefer green tea capsules). I believe a lot of people associate one thing with another and don't really understand about association.
If it was just the caffeine, I'd drink Mountain Dew (which has far more caffeine than coffee), it is the whole flavor/taste nexus

If it was just the caffine coffee flavored ice cream and decaf wouldn't be as popular as they are now.
Coffee is an aquired taste. That is to say, the more you have of it, the less vile it becomes. I used to hate coffee, but I actually do love it now. Besides the pick-me-up it gives me, I've come to enjoy it with a little bit of milk and sugar. I'm a fan of the way the bitterness blends with the sweet.

Caffeine. Although honestly it does nothing for me. I can drink 4 cups of coffee and still go to bed in an hour. A soda is the same way. The only thing that really works is an energy drink like Red Bull and that isn't a guarantee. A few weeks ago I drank 3 in 2 hours so I could stay up late for a party but still fell asleep by 12:30am. I guess if it does it for you, go for it. lol.

I'm not going to argue that the main point of Coffee isn't the caffeine (of course thats why people drink it), but there are better sources of caffeine. I do like the taste of a good coffee (though, I prefer a good Tea) and I think other people do as well.
Energy drinks are more popular now for some.

I love both. I love the taste of a really good coffee, when it is made well. I love the aroma of it brewing. It is an enjoyable drink / beverage to me.
I also love caffeine, and not only do I drink coffee but I also drink sodas and whatnot. But the whole coffee /caffeine connection, I think I would drink coffee anyways. Shoot, on a cold night, sometimes I will drink a cup of de-caf coffee to warm up.

it's the "experience" of coffee. to me, there is something inviting and comforting about a cup of coffee with steam rising from it…
you wrap your hands around a warm mug and inhale the aroma which stirs some long forgotten childhood memory of the smell of coffee wafting through my parent's house…awakening me from sleep. the first sip is taken with eyes shut…feeling the warm liquid slide down the throat to instantly warm the stomach.
yes, i know i can get caffeine other ways. in fact i also drink a lot of hot tea, cold tea and sodas but there is nothing like the "experience" of coffee. it awakens the senses.
