I have been drinking green tea (leaf form) for three years now. A friend got me hooked on it when I was on the Atkin's Diet. I lost weight well on that healthy eating plan & drinking a lot of water, plus the green tea, helped wash the toxins out of my body, thus helping me to lose weight also. There are antioxidants in the green tea that thwart off some types of cancer.

Green tea is very high in antioxdant value if properly protected…
About 6 years ago, a research and development company that develops very high quality dietary supplements, set out to develop the best Antioxidant on the market. They have the machines to test the Antioxidant values in each product (called ORAC testing), and so they purchased ingredients known to be high in antioxidants to begin the development.
The first ingredient they tested was Green Tea, because we know is high in antioxidants and antioxidants protects our cells and is good for our health. They bought 100 bottles of it, tested it, and all the tests came back with ZERO antioxidant levels. At first they thought it was their machines, so they worked on them, and bought another lot… The same thing happened. So they recalibrated one more time, bought more Green Tea, and still ZERO antioxidant value was found.
So they called the company that produced the Green Tea. When they told them what had taken place, the company said, "OH! If we knew you were going to TEST it, we would have sent you the OTHER STUFF…"
What that means is best illustrated like this:
Let's say you take an apple and cut it in half. Place one half on the counter. Coat the other half with lemon juice and place it on the counter. In just a short while, the half of the apple that was not coated will begin to turn brown because the air is getting to it. Oxygen is in the air … that is what Oxidates the apple (turning brown).
The half of the apple that is coated with the lemon juice is protected and does not turn brown.
The antioxidant products on the shelves are not protected and the air oxidates them… thus you are not getting an active antioxidant product.
To answer your question, What are the benefits of taking Green Tea as a supplement, my answer according to scientific research, is that the antioxidant value in supplements bought over the counter does not exist. You may get the benefits of some vitamins or minerals that were absorbed through the roots and into the leaves, but if you are drinking the tea for antioxidant protection, I am sorry to say, but it just isn't there.
(Unless you have purchased the products directly from the manufacturer, and they have been sealed to keep the air away from them.)
Green Tea, when protected, has high antioxidant values. Antioxidants protect our cells from free radicals. Free radicals attack our cells, and break them down. This causes aging, weakening of the cells, which leads to illnesses and diseases. Antioxidants protect the cells and bind the free radicals, thus allowing the cell to function properly, and may prevent premature aging, and protects our cells against illness.
If you are looking for antioxidant protection, after 4 years of research and development, this company found a way to "coat" the antioxidants so they stay active and
went on to produce a very high quality antioxidant.
email me if you would like more information on this antioxidant supplement that is active!!!!
