I've come to enjoy Lipton's citrus green tea, but I've often wondered how healthy it really is, considering all the things other than green tea in there. How does the sugar and other additives make this drink stack up versus regular green tea you would brew? Hope to get some informative answers! Any sources or references to support your answer would be greatly appreciated!

I was going to get some, then I read the label, I brew my own. The primary ingredient after water is high fructose corn syrup, a chemically altered sugar that is no good for you at all.

if you brew it yourself, you know exactly what's added… no preservatives or chemicals besides whatever the tea leaves are sprayed with.

I am actually addicted to Lipton's Green Tea in either Citrus or Peach flavors, however, I drink the Diet version. Let me say this though, it is mainly citric acid. I would not compare the overall healthiness of this product to say, a homebrewed green tea poured over ice. It is completely different. Lipton's is more of a juice than a green tea. The calorie content of Lipton's is high, due to the sugar. Therefore, I believe the diet version is healthier for you. However, if you are trying to drink Green Tea for it's beneficial purposes (antioxidents, lose weight, etc) then I would do a homebrewed version, but actually, add crused mint to the tea! This is really tasty, add crused mint to the green tea, then pour the hot water into it… it gives a soothing, refreshing version of green tea. Then add splenda or equal, to give sweetness, without the calories. If you are on the go, then drink Lipton's, but DIET. Cheers!

My theory is; if it's got a popular American brand name on the label…it's unhealthy. (When it comes to bottled tea, of course)

Stick with straight tea leaves; I brew and drink my own. I like Gyokuro green tea; it raised my metabolism to noticeable levels, and helped me shed five pounds in two and a half weeks.

I was just downing a bottle of this (the diet) as I saw this question (lol!). I would guess that the more natural it is, the healthier. The fact that it's bottled doesn't mean it isn't healthy, but if you really want to reap the benefits of green tea, then I would suggest drinking the real stuff. I take green tea pills and they work well. I usually don't drink the bottled stuff, but I wanted to drink something other than water when I went to buy my lunch.

if it has high fructose corn syrup its not healthy at all. your best bet is to brew your own tea, add ur own sugar(or none at all). If u dont know what kind of tea is healthy for you, you can go to your local tea market and ask what tea tastes better or is healthy for the body.
