I was going to go to the grocery store across the street and pick up a local brand, then I heard Matcha is the best so now I might have to go on an obstacle course throught the city in NY to find it

thanks everyone

Matcha is green tea ground into a fine powder. I don't think it's so great for drinking, it's bitter and you don't really steep it. However, I LOVE matcha as an ingredient in ice cream, cakes, smoothies, etc. Matcha probably has more of whatever good things (EGCG?) are found in regular green tea because it's very concentrated. Matcha is also very expensive, like $20 for a small box.

Sencha is just japanese green tea that has not been ground at all, so the leaves are whole. The health benefits are probably the same, but Sencha is very pretty sitting in a cup with the leaves unfurled. Obviously, it's also pricier due to the artisan-ship and care involved.

I wouldn't bother hunting down these specialty teas for health reasons. If you wanted to do "cuppings" or tea tastings, then I would bother with green tea variations.
