I have a hard time getting plain water down so I usually drink the flavored, sugar free, carbonated waters, Sobe lean diet green tea or a flavored hot tea. The nutrient content says 0 on almost everything. Occasionally coffee if I'm super tired. Are these equal to plain water?

From an "eight glasses of water a day" standpoint, they are an equivalent. Except for the coffee, because it contains enough caffeine to be dehydrating.

From a health perspective they are not equivalent, because they are flavoured with unnatural chemicals in order to keep the calorie count low. If your body spends time and energy digesting strange chemicals, it will have a harder time digesting the normal food you eat, and this can lead to weight gain. Also, artificial sweeteners like aspartame are proven to cause cellulite.

Yes they do…however, if they are caffienated they don't. Caffiene actually dehydrates. I read for each caffienated beverage you drink you need to follow with a glass of water.

No. Water counts as water. Getting the eight glasses thing help to dilute and clear out other chemicals and hydrate the cell (i.e. avoid wrinkles). Teas are colored b/c they have other chemicals in them that may also need to be diluted to excrete. So although better than alcohol…nothing beats plain water.
Try filtering your water to rid it of bad taste from chemicals and minerals. Good water should be tasteless just like good vodka is :)
If you are hungry EAT something with sugar in it. If your body feels thirsty…give it WATER..not soda…not cancer water (diet)…your body wants WATER. Also…if you neglect normal hydration levels…you body will slowly become chronically dehydrated…that is it will begin to tell you you are thirsty only after your become significantly dehydrated.

Almost. There are a few myths concerning water consumption, one that you need 8 glasses per day. Not true, drink when you're thirsty. Drinking too much depletes your body of important water soluble vitamins.

Next, some say that only water counts. Not true. Although caffeine is a mild diuretic, and may flush some water from you, it's not as much as the water in it. Your body is perfectly equipped to get water from a beverage containing water. The important thing is: drink when you are thirsty, diet beverages are fine.

No, when you add something to water it doesn't count as water just because the water was present before. If you add substances to water, they take the quality of the water away, water is only water if it's pure water….

I was once told that if you wouldnt bathe in it, it isnt water.

Getting your liquid from noncaffeine, noncalorie sources is better than nothing, but you have to rememeber that when you drink these things you are also drinking an alarmingly high amount of artificial sweetners and other not so good things.

    Water is water.

No. Nothing is the same as good ol' clean, filtered water. I hate drinking water. But my body wants it. And at first it's hard. But you get to where nothing else will satisfy you. So, make it a goal to have a container at your desk or with you where you can sip on it throughout the day. I have also found that the colder the temp the easier to drink. You will feel better when you raise your water intake. Water does the body good!

No. The caffeine dehydrates you. So actually when you drink a 12 oz. cup of coffee, you would have to drink 18 oz. of water to offset the dehydration factor.

Fruit juices and Gator Aid type of drinks would count.

No they do not count as water. But they do count as liquids as in "drink plenty drink liquids." If you have a problem drinking plain water, buy a small carton of orange juice(16oz) and make orangeade, pour the 16oz OJ in a quart jar and add cold water. It's very tasty and much better for you. Or squeeze a little of lemon juice (from lemons, not the bottled stuff) into your water. Very refreshing.

No, water is good because it has nothing in it and will clean out your system, if you put something in it it will not clean out your system, it will put more stuff in it. Water will help wash-out germs and Bactria. You cant beat plain water (8 glasses per day really helps keep you healthy). THOUGH green tea is known to speed up your metabolism.
